Hundreds Unite in Support of Mental Health Charities during the Second “Run for Kezia”

Jersey, Channel Islands – In a powerful demonstration of solidarity, hundreds of Islanders participated in a charity fun run to raise both funds and awareness for young people’s mental health issues. The event, known as “Run for Kezia,” was organized in memory of a teenager, Kezia Mason, who tragically took her own life.

The second annual “Run for Kezia” event saw over 800 participants running and walking distances of 10k, 5k, and 2k, with the starting point located at the picturesque Jardins de la Mer.

The inaugural “Run for Kezia” in the previous year managed to raise an impressive £20,000. It played a pivotal role in augmenting the funds of a charitable foundation established in Kezia’s memory. This foundation, in partnership with the Jersey Community Foundation, has begun distributing grants to organizations dedicated to assisting individuals grappling with mental health challenges.

The total funds raised during this year’s event will be revealed in due course.

Rob Mason, Kezia’s father, expressed his profound gratitude to all those who participated in this year’s run. He also acknowledged his surprise at the event’s continued success, as he initially thought the response might wane after the impressive turnout in the first year. However, he noted that “Run for Kezia” has evolved into a broader event that promotes mental health awareness while also raising essential funds for charitable causes.

Race director Alex Ruddy, enthused by the remarkable turnout, described it as “amazing” and expressed optimism about the event’s future. She cited the inclusivity of the event as one of its key attractions, emphasizing that it is open to runners of all skill levels. Unlike a competitive race, the focus is on enjoyment and participation, with no official timing.

Ruddy extended her gratitude to all attendees and acknowledged the support of event management companies, 3D Events, and Stage 2 Productions. She also shared that some participants were already inquiring about the event’s return next year, highlighting the growing significance of “Run for Kezia” as a platform to promote mental health awareness and support.
