The “Mullets for Mental Health” initiative, scheduled for April 2024, is a lighthearted and engaging challenge where participants grow and style their mullets to raise funds for the Black Dog Institute’s vital mental health research and support services.

Dr. Sandersan Onie, a researcher at the Black Dog Institute, highlighted the alarming statistics surrounding mental health in Australia, noting that suicide is the leading cause of death among individuals aged 15-44. He emphasized the urgent need for increased awareness and support for mental health initiatives.

Since its inception in 2020, the “Mullets for Mental Health” campaign has garnered participation from over 30,000 individuals in the community, generating nearly $12 million in donations to fund the Black Dog Institute’s groundbreaking research. These contributions have enabled the Institute to expand its digital services and educational programs, reaching those most in need of assistance.

Notable Canberra Raider players, including Josh Papalii and Pasami Saulo, have enthusiastically embraced the campaign, showcasing their support by growing their mullets throughout the month of April. Their involvement underscores the team’s dedication to promoting mental health awareness and destigmatizing discussions surrounding mental illness.

Members of the community are encouraged to join the Raiders’ team or make donations to support the “Mullets for Mental Health” cause. Further information on how to contribute can be found through the team’s official channels.

Through their partnership with the Black Dog Institute and active participation in the “Mullets for Mental Health” campaign, the Toyota Forklift Raiders are championing the importance of mental health advocacy and solidarity within their community.
