Round Rock Responds to Juneteenth Shooting with Mental Health Support

In the wake of Saturday night’s tragic shooting at the Juneteenth celebration in Old Settlers Park, the City of Round Rock has swiftly mobilized to provide vital mental health resources to community members affected by the incident.

According to police reports, the shooting erupted during an altercation between two groups at approximately 10:50 p.m. The incident occurred not far from the main stage but in the vicinity of the festival’s vendor section. Police have issued a description of the suspect involved, and 14 individuals were transported to the hospital, with two fatalities reported at the scene.

Crisis Response Unit (CRU)

To address the immediate mental health needs of those impacted, the Round Rock Fire Department’s Crisis Response Unit (CRU) has been activated. This specialized team is dedicated to delivering prompt and compassionate assistance to individuals navigating crises, including mental health emergencies and traumatic incidents.

In response to the Juneteenth tragedy, CRU has extended its office hours from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. starting Sunday, June 16, through Friday, June 21. Residents seeking support can reach out to CRU by calling 512-218-5501, where trained team members will provide guidance, educational resources, and facilitate in-person appointments as necessary.

Disaster Distress Helpline

Additionally, the U.S. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) offers the Disaster Distress Helpline, operating 24/7 to assist U.S. residents experiencing psychological distress in the aftermath of natural or human-caused disasters. Individuals in need can access support by calling the helpline at any time.

In the face of adversity, Round Rock stands united in its commitment to providing essential mental health support and fostering resilience within the community.
