Manhattan Beach, CA – The Jimmy Miller Memorial Foundation (JMMF) is set to host its annual fundraiser, BeneFiesta, this Saturday, July 20, at a private residence in Manhattan Beach. Established in memory of Manhattan Beach local Jimmy Miller, who tragically passed away at the age of 35 in 2004, the foundation continues his legacy of surfing and support for those facing mental and physical challenges.
Following Jimmy Miller’s untimely death, his family, led by his mother Nancy Miller, established the JMMF to promote the healing power of surfing and to provide assistance to individuals coping with mental health issues. “We started as a small family foundation with a powerful idea that surfing can aid those with mental and physical needs,” Nancy Miller reflected in a recent interview.
Initially focusing on at-risk youth, the foundation has since expanded its reach. Its newest initiative, the First Responders Oceanic Performance Optimization Wellness and Resiliency program (FROPOWR), aims to support first responders grappling with mental health challenges. Andy Dellenbach, CEO of JMMF, emphasized the stigma associated with mental health in such professions, underscoring the importance of optimizing performance through support programs like FROPOWR.
The BeneFiesta fundraiser not only aims to raise crucial funds for JMMF’s expanding programs but also serves as a tribute to Jimmy Miller’s impact on the community. Highlighting the event will be musical performances by Jim Lindberg of Pennywise and local musician Zacc West, who will debut a song dedicated to Jimmy Miller’s memory. Additionally, Ed Quinn, a close friend of Jimmy Miller, will present a song titled “Dreamland Dreams,” recorded specifically for the event.
Tickets for BeneFiesta are available for purchase, with VIP reception tickets priced at $500 and general admission tickets at $250. The event will feature culinary delights from local chefs, alongside cocktails, wine tastings, and live entertainment. All proceeds from the event will directly benefit JMMF’s ongoing efforts to support mental health through surfing therapy.
Nancy Miller expressed her gratitude for the community’s unwavering support of JMMF, emphasizing that Jimmy Miller’s legacy continues to inspire positive change. “To me, as a mom, that means everything,” she remarked, reflecting on the foundation’s journey since its inception.
