BALDWIN COUNTY – The Baldwin County Commission recently celebrated the grand opening of Longleaf Recovery and Wellness, a new recovery treatment center in Spanish Fort. This facility also specializes in treating mental illness, addressing a critical need in the community.
Billie Jo Underwood, chair of the Baldwin County Commission, emphasized the importance of the new center for the region. “We need this for Baldwin County and for the Gulf Coast area. I am so excited that the people of this area can get help locally,” Underwood stated.
Alabama Department of Mental Health Commissioner Kimberly Boswell, who attended the opening, highlighted the center’s potential impact on mental healthcare in the state. “Longleaf Recovery is really doing innovative and creative work in our state,” Boswell said. “Everything that they’re doing in their approach is about creating dignity and respect for the people who walk through their door.”
Longleaf Recovery and Wellness has other locations in Birmingham, Hoover, and Madison. The opening of this new center in Spanish Fort is seen as a crucial step in addressing Alabama’s growing issue with accessibility to recovery and mental health facilities, especially in light of the opioid crisis.
Spanish Fort City Councilman J.R. Smith also attended the event, held at 13920 Cypress Way, and expressed his support. “This will be a welcome addition to the community,” Smith remarked.
The center’s innovative approach and comprehensive services are expected to significantly enhance the quality of mental health care and recovery options available to Baldwin County residents and the broader Gulf Coast area.
