Young people on Bribie Island now have access to free mental health care with the opening of a new headspace service. Located at 201 First Avenue, Bongaree, headspace Bribie Island officially opened its doors on July 29, 2024, providing vital support for individuals aged 12 to 25 who are experiencing, or at risk of, mild to moderate mental health issues.
Government Investment in Mental Health Services
The establishment of headspace Bribie Island is part of a broader initiative by the Albanese Government to expand mental health services across Australia. The government is investing over $320 million to grow the headspace network to 173 centres by the 2025-26 period. With this new addition, there are now 162 headspace centres operating nationwide, with 89 located in regional areas, ensuring that mental health support is accessible to more young people across the country.
To further strengthen the mental health workforce, the government is also investing $27.1 million in the headspace Early Career Program. This initiative places allied health students and graduates in headspace services, particularly in regional Australia, to help meet the growing demand for mental health professionals.
Local Access to Mental Health Support
Assistant Minister McBride highlighted the significance of the new centre for the Bribie Island community, stating, “Young people living on Bribie Island can now access mental health support locally, in their own community, without needing to travel off Bribie. We’re bringing support and care closer to home for thousands of young people, with 88 headspace services now located across regional Australia.”

The new headspace Bribie Island service, funded by the Albanese Government, commissioned by Brisbane North Primary Health Network, and operated by Youturn Limited, represents a significant step forward in providing accessible mental health care for young people in the region.
