Cincinnati Bearcats and Ohio State Buckeyes to Host Charity Exhibition Game for Mental Health Awareness

Cincinnati, Ohio – The Cincinnati Bearcats and Ohio State Buckeyes men’s basketball teams will face off in a charity exhibition game on October 18, aimed at raising awareness for adolescent and young adult mental health and suicide prevention.

This event continues the trend of college basketball programs supporting mental health causes following the tragic suicide of Dayton Flyers coach Anthony Grant’s daughter, Jay, in 2022. The game is part of a broader initiative to honor her memory and promote mental health awareness.

On October 20, the Dayton Flyers and Xavier Musketeers will also participate in a charity exhibition game with similar objectives. Last October, Dayton and Ohio State played in the inaugural charity exhibition game benefiting mental health organizations, which raised approximately $500,000.

CareSource is sponsoring both the Cincinnati-Ohio State and Dayton-Xavier games.

“Chris and I are deeply moved by the continued generosity and support from those committed to raising awareness, fostering conversation, and expanding access to mental health services,” said Grant in a press release. “We are thankful to CareSource, our fellow head coaches, and all our partners for their dedication to this crucial cause. Together, we can leverage our collective visibility to make a meaningful impact.”

In addition to the exhibition games, last year’s event at UD Arena, titled “The Spotlight: To Shine A Light On Mental Health,” took place just days before the game against Ohio State, further emphasizing the importance of mental health advocacy.
