The EVECE Foundation is inviting the community to join its annual Walk Run 5K on Saturday, October 5th, 2024, aimed at raising awareness for mental health and fostering community wellness. Location: Atlantic Station

The 5K Walk will serve as a unifying occasion for exercise, fellowship, and purpose. Participants will honor the memories of Chris and Erin Edwards—two individuals whose lives continue to inspire many—along with countless others lost to depression, substance abuse, suicide, and gun violence.

This event aims to raise awareness of critical mental health issues affecting both youth and adults across the nation. By walking or running, participants will stand in solidarity with those struggling with mental health challenges, illustrating the collective action necessary to improve mental well-being.

Dr. Christopher Edwards, father of Christopher and Erin, and Chairman of The EVECE Foundation, expressed his concern regarding the alarming rates of suicide and the over 300 mass shootings in the United States, including a recent incident at Apalachee High School in Muscogee County, Georgia. “At some point, we all have to realize that all of this stems from abnormal mental health. However, there is hope. It’s not too late, but we must take action now,” Dr. Edwards stated.

Edrea Edwards, Executive Director of the EVECE Foundation, added, “Raising awareness for mental health is a crucial step toward breaking down stigmas and fostering a society that values emotional well-being. Our vision is to create a community that prioritizes mental health through education, healthcare access, community support, and positive societal attitudes.”

Everyone is encouraged to participate in this impactful event as individual walkers, team participants, or volunteers. Following the race, a free community event will feature vendors, food trucks, opportunities to engage with mental health specialists, live healthy cooking demonstrations, Dr. Joanne Patterson’s Mental Wellness mobile truck, special guest appearances, holistic therapeutic services like sound baths, voter registration, and much more. Your involvement will enhance the spirit of the day and support the foundation’s mission of mental health advocacy and community healing.
