North Yorkshire, UK — Staff at H&H Insurance Brokers (HHIB) have undergone specialized mental health first aid training to better support farmers and agricultural workers. This initiative comes in response to findings from the Big Farming Survey by the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution (RABI), which revealed that 34% of men and 54% of women in agriculture experience anxiety and depression.
The training, led by Corinne Cooper, focuses on recognizing signs of mental distress and initiating sensitive conversations. “Farmers often feel isolated and reluctant to discuss their struggles,” said Sally Conner, senior regional manager at RABI. “We want them to know it’s okay to talk about their feelings.”
Corinne emphasized the importance of this training for fostering open dialogues around mental health, especially in a field where loneliness can be prevalent. By equipping account executives with these skills, HHIB aims to create a supportive environment for their rural clients, helping to alleviate stigma and promote well-being.
RABI, alongside HHIB, is committed to reaching the farming community, and this collaboration is seen as a vital step in encouraging individuals to seek help when needed. HHIB will continue to roll out this program across its various offices in the North of England, South of Scotland, and Wales throughout 2025.
