In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, the Board of Commissioners organized a walk to show solidarity with those affected by mental health challenges. The event was held in collaboration with the Prosecutor’s Office, the Camden County Addiction Awareness Task Force, the Governor’s Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse, and the Camden County Municipal Alliance Program.
“Talking about mental health is still difficult for a lot of people. There is an element of shame or embarrassment attached to the topic when there should not be,” said Commissioner Virginia Betteridge. “Through events like the Mental Health Walk, our goal is to raise awareness, break down the stigma surrounding mental health, and show people that help and resources are available.”
During the event, Commissioner Betteridge presented a proclamation to Michele Kidd, founder of Nate’s Story, a nonprofit organization dedicated to breaking the stigma surrounding grief, trauma, and mental health issues.
