The Park City School District is making strides in mental health support by providing free online resources for students, families, and staff. This initiative is part of a broader effort to foster a sense of belonging and community among its members.

During an interview on KPCW’s “Local News Hour,” interim Superintendent Caleb Fine emphasized the district’s role in supporting student mental health. He remarked, “We’re a huge part of that support as schools; we have as much influence as anyone. But the most important influence is the home, and then we also have the community.”

The Parent Guidance site reveals concerning statistics: 50% of parents worry that their child is struggling with mental health issues but feel uncertain about how to help. Additionally, studies indicate that 10% to 20% of adolescents globally experience mental health conditions. The Park City School District aims to address these issues through its new digital platform.

The online resource offers a variety of tools, including a library of mental health courses, one-on-one parent coaching, and a question-and-answer forum. Fine explained, “It’s an area where parents can get a little bit more information and try some different tools to help best support their child and their child’s development, because it’s complex.” He acknowledged the challenges of parenting, stating, “Raising children is complex; it’s the greatest gift and privilege for most parents, but it’s also one of the hardest things they do.”

The Park City School District is part of a larger initiative, partnering with the Cook Center, which includes 360 school districts and serves over 3 million families across 46 states. This collaboration enhances access to mental health services for the community.

In addition to these resources, the district previously launched the “We All Belong” campaign, aimed at strengthening connections between students and the community. This year, local administrators have also implemented a standardized harassment reporting system, enacted policy changes to clarify acceptable school behavior, and trained staff on how to effectively investigate and resolve incidents.

Through these efforts, the Park City School District is not only addressing mental health concerns but also fostering a supportive environment for families and students.
