A recent study from Auburn University has shed light on the profound impact of physical closeness on couples’ mental health. The research observed 143 long-term heterosexual couples and found that those who engaged in cuddling before sleep experienced significantly lower stress levels and stronger emotional bonds.
This simple act of intimacy triggers the release of oxytocin, commonly known as the “love hormone,” which promotes feelings of comfort, safety, and connection. Additionally, cuddling has been associated with reduced blood pressure, heart rate, and cortisol levels, all of which contribute to decreased stress.
Experts suggest that even a short pre-sleep cuddle session can offer meaningful physiological and psychological benefits, emphasizing the importance of incorporating intimacy into nightly routines.
