Parents should respect children’s “privacy”

“The thing I hate the most is that my parents peek at my diary and eavesdrop on my phone. I feel like they look at me like a thief! If this goes on, I feel that the estrangement between myself and them is getting bigger and bigger, and I don’t even think they are. I am willing to communicate with them.” A second-year student recently told reporters about his growing psychological distress. This student’s voice is not an isolated phenomenon, and many children feel the same way when it comes to “privacy”. As they grow older and become more independent, they begin to have some “secrets” of their own, and the diary becomes the “friend” that the child confides in. However, many parents try to read their children’s diaries and eavesdrop on their children’s conversations on the grounds of being “responsible” and “caring” for their children. Ms. Liu’s child is in the fourth grade of a primary school in Taiyuan. She thinks: “The society is very chaotic now. How can you know who he is dating if you don’t listen to his phone? Parents must have parental guardianship. We do this. It’s also for the good of the children!” Parents peeking at diaries and overhearing phone calls are actually manifestations of lack of care and trust for their children, which can easily lead to children’s dissatisfaction with their parents and create new communication barriers. This essentially reflects the current lack of family education. When parents or teachers violate their children’s right to privacy, they also do great harm to their psychology. If it goes on for a long time, it may also cause the child to suffer from depression, or even have a distorted personality, and the originally strong family relationship will be much weaker.

Experts suggest that parents should respect their children’s right to privacy, and don’t move the lock on the child’s drawer easily, because it is used to cherish the child’s “secret”. If you force it open, the door of the child’s heart will be closed to you from now on. . Parents should look at their children, approach them, communicate with them more, understand their inner world, solve their troubles, and give them a happy and pure spiritual space.
