AIA Group Ltd., a Hong Kong-based insurance company, is enhancing its offerings by incorporating mental health support into its insurance products. The move comes as part of the company’s response to rising concerns over mental wellness across Asia.
Melissa Henson, Chief Marketing Officer at AIA Group, shared that the company has partnered with counseling service providers to offer mental health support as part of certain insurance packages. “We’ve been increasingly focused on making mental health services more accessible to our customers, recognizing the growing awareness and concern surrounding this issue,” Henson said.
A recent survey conducted by AIA Philippines, which polled approximately 1,000 Filipinos, revealed that 30% of respondents believe a healthy mind is central to defining a healthy life. In contrast, 52% defined a healthy life as having a healthy body, and 12% emphasized the importance of healthy financial habits.
AIA Group’s Chief Marketing Officer, Stuart Spencer, highlighted the rising prevalence of depression and mental health struggles across Asia. He pointed out that the demand for mental health services is high, but there is a significant shortage of available care due to societal stigmas and stereotypes.
“There is a supply and demand gap when it comes to mental health care across the region. What we are aiming to do is bridge that gap and make it easier for our customers to access the mental health professionals they need,” Spencer explained.
This initiative reflects AIA’s commitment to addressing mental health needs and integrating mental wellness into its broader insurance offerings, meeting the growing demand for holistic health solutions.
