A recent study examines the psychological impact of internet and social media on marital dynamics.
A study conducted in China investigated the effects of new media—including internet and social media platforms—on the mental health and marital satisfaction of married women. The research found that greater engagement with these digital platforms correlated with decreased satisfaction in marriage.
Specifically, increased media use was associated with negative perceptions of spouses’ contributions to household chores, which in turn heightened feelings of dissatisfaction. This domestic discontent was linked to elevated levels of depression among the women surveyed.
The study underscores the importance of balancing media consumption with real-life interactions and equitable household responsibilities to promote mental wellbeing and healthier marriages.
